Domain Authority

Also: Domain RatingSite Authority

A third-party score estimating how likely a website is to rank, based largely on its backlink profile.

Why it matters

Domain authority is a popular metric (from tools like Moz and Ahrefs) that estimates a site's overall ranking strength, mostly from its backlinks. It is useful as a rough comparative gauge of a site's SEO standing. But it is a third-party estimate, not a number search engines actually use.

What good looks like

Domain authority is best used comparatively, to gauge your standing against competitors, rather than as an absolute target. Chasing the score itself, rather than the rankings and traffic that matter, misses the point.
